My Brain

This the start of a piece of free hand embroidery. I love the fact that I never know what it will look like.
Let me explain that. I wanted to make a piece that would cover a small note pad. I Choose black material, as the back ground this brings out the colours. I then started to cover the area in random stitches, blending the colours into each other. My daughter has called it "Brain" as she thinks that is what her brain would look like if you took a peep.

By placing different colours next to each other I have learnt a lot about how they react with each other.
A bluey/green next to a grey will look blue, next to brown will look green. I resisted using beads on this piece, only because the bright colours on the black have a jewel like quality without beads.
This has been a really enjoyable bit of embroidery the colour and shape evolves and takes you where you like.
There is no wrong stitch,no unpicking,no wondering if I have done it right.
Embroidery without a pattern is very expressive.

I have been really busy at work and ok it is an excuse, but I have had so much fun with my sewing that have forgot to share it.
There are sooooo many lovely blogs to catch up with that I get carried away.
Tomorrow will be a photo taking day so you can see what I have been up to.
I am never happy with the quality of my photos,so desperatly need some practise.
Off to practise on a noisey chicken out side my window.

Mice do play

These were originally made as chrismas decoration, but they were so sweet I could not stop.
Only tiny scarps of felt and fabric were used. They were a tad fiddley, but hey worth it.
I need to decide on my next project but love to play with these smaller sewing ideas,
There is a lot of talk in Blog Land about stash busting.
Be greaful you have a stash to bust, good quality cotton quilt fabric is hard to come by here I envy you all so much choice.
Still it makes for interesting combinations and lots of ingenuity.
I have a Pink feeling about the next project.
till next time....

When the Cats away........

When the cats away the mice do play.
Yesterday I made a few of these darling little cats some were stuffed with lavender and others with just plain cotton filling. They are a great way of using up scraps, they measure just 3" high and are very easy to put together. Made in different colour prints they make lovely bowl fillers or stuffed with lavender they hang with my clothes
