My Brain
This the start of a piece of free hand embroidery. I love the fact that I never know what it will look like.
Let me explain that. I wanted to make a piece that would cover a small note pad. I Choose black material, as the back ground this brings out the colours. I then started to cover the area in random stitches, blending the colours into each other. My daughter has called it "Brain" as she thinks that is what her brain would look like if you took a peep.
By placing different colours next to each other I have learnt a lot about how they react with each other.
A bluey/green next to a grey will look blue, next to brown will look green. I resisted using beads on this piece, only because the bright colours on the black have a jewel like quality without beads.
This has been a really enjoyable bit of embroidery the colour and shape evolves and takes you where you like.
There is no wrong stitch,no unpicking,no wondering if I have done it right.
Embroidery without a pattern is very expressive.

Hello! found your blog via stitchin fingers. I really like this embroidery, and the very cute little mice. I have only been blogging for 6 months, and I felt a bit like you in my first post - my advice just keep writing and posting photos -it gets easier, and the more you write the easier it gets. (i recently went on holidays and could bring myself to start posting again). In terms of getting your blog known - the best advice is to leave comments on others blogs. ps I like your chooks too (we have 6)
Hi!
I also found your blog through stitchin fingers and agree whole-heartedly with Paula's advise. Paula is an outstanding embroiderer but also an excellent, witty, and totally entertaining writer.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Susan Lenz. I'm live and stitch in Columbia, South Carolina in the USA where I've mounted an upcoming exhibition called CYBER FYBER. It will be held at Gallery 80808/Vista Studios from January 8 - 20, 2009 and will include traded fiber postcards and ATCs. So far, I've traded with fiber artists in 26 countries and 38 states in the USA. I've "sort of" traded with another embroiderer in Malawi...but she's moving soon and asked if I would use her mother's South African address. Of course this is great...and I've counted it as Malawi...but it is also sort of "cheating" a bit. So, I'd really love to trade with you. Please consider it.
Trading is easy. All the available postcards and ATCs are on the CYBER FYBER site...which is actually a series of interconnected blogs. Just go to http://cyberfyberexhibition.blogspot.com. In the upper right part of your screen are links to the postcards and ATCs. If you decide to trade, just leave a comment on the one you want. Then, write a private email to me at cyberfyber@prodigy.net with you mailing address. I will mail the card, edit the post for this card to reflect our trade (including a link to both your stitchin fingers page and your blog), and wait for your trade to arrive.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to write. Thanks for any consideration!
Susan
PS Oh, my "personal" blog...for my own artistic journey is http://artbysusanlenz.blogspot.com
Thanks!
Please consider this. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to write. Even if you don't,
